# Warn

## Command

/mod warn <user> [reason] [appeal_policy] [appeal_cooldown_days]
```

## Description

Warns a Member. Requires the warn feature to be enabled via [`/warns enable`](https://docs.utilbot.co/commands/admins/warns). The Member gets a DM with their current number of warns.

Every warn is stored with the moderator who issued it, the reason and the date. Use [`/mod warns`](https://docs.utilbot.co/commands/moderators/warn-history) to see a Member's warn history and [`/mod lift-warn`](https://docs.utilbot.co/commands/moderators/lift-warn) to lift a warn.

When the Member reaches the maximum amount of warns, they are kicked or banned, depending on the [`/warns threshold`](https://docs.utilbot.co/commands/admins/warns) setting.

You can only warn Members whose highest role is below your own.

## Arguments

| reason | STRING | The reason for the warn. Max 500 Characters. | Spamming |
| appeal\_policy\* | STRING | Whether this warn can be appealed: `Immediate`, `Cooldown` or `Disabled`. Defaults to the server setting. | Cooldown |
| appeal\_cooldown\_days\* | NUMBER | Days to wait before an appeal can be submitted (1 to 365). Only used with the `Cooldown` policy. | 7 |

`*: Only on servers that have the Appeals feature enabled.`
