# Changelog

> New features, updates, and fixes for Utilbot

**October 11, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.26.0

### New Features

* **Auto Moderation**: New keyword rule against scam messages. It flags a message that contains several scam keywords, from a built-in list plus your server's own. It is off by default and set up on the Auto Moderation page of the dashboard
  * The number of keywords a message needs to be flagged can be set from 2 to 10. Forwarded messages are checked too
  * Optional image scanning reads the text in attached images, so scam screenshots are caught as well. An aggressive mode catches more of them, at the price of more false alarms
  * You choose what happens to the message (delete it, or keep it and only report it) and to the member (nothing, warn, 24 hour timeout, kick or ban)
* **Auto Moderation**: What happens to a message caught by the word filter or the scam link filter can be chosen: replace it with a censored copy (as before), delete it, or keep it and only report it. Set it on the dashboard or with `/word-filter options`
* **Logging**: Auto moderation reports what it did under a log type of its own, **Auto Moderation Actions**. Log channels with Future Types get it automatically, other servers enable it on the Logging page
* **Features**: Giveaways, the message filter, welcome messages, role selection, rank roles and the starboard are now available on every server
* **Website**: The [stats page](https://utilbot.co/stats) and the [command overview](https://utilbot.co/commands) are open to everyone
* **Audit Log**: A server audit log on the dashboard shows what administrators and moderators did with Utilbot, on the dashboard or with a command. Entries are kept for 45 days. Available on selected servers for now
* **Account**: Your account page lists what you allowed Utilbot to access on Discord and how to take it back
* **Account**: A user who was banned from Utilbot can still sign in to see the reason and the duration of the ban, and to appeal it where the ban allows that
* **Privacy**: Visitors who are not signed in are asked before a cookie that tells their browser apart is set, with "Decline" and "Allow" side by side. The choice can be changed at any time under "Privacy settings"

### Updates

* **Logging**: Log entries name who did it with a mention right below the title, instead of a tag in small print above it. Nobody is pinged by it
* **Auto Moderation**: The scam link filter uses a much larger list and also recognises links that are disguised, for example as masked links, on subdomains or with invisible characters
* **Auto Moderation**: The word filter and the scam link filter also check edited messages
* **Auto Moderation**: The censored copy of a filtered message keeps the original capitalisation, spacing and line breaks. Denied and allowed words match regardless of case, and an allowed word wins over a denied word inside it
* **Warns**: Channel hopping counts voice channel joins within a time window that you can set (10 seconds by default) on the dashboard or with the new `window` option of `/warns limits edit`. Only joining or switching a channel counts, bots are ignored, and a member is warned once per window
* **Dashboard**: The dashboard connects faster and shows your server list sooner
* **Dashboard**: Signing out, or a session that ends elsewhere, takes effect right away without reloading the page
* **Website**: The privacy policy was updated for the new features

### Bug Fixes

* **Support**: Reopening any thread made Utilbot lock it, even when it was not a support ticket
* **Auto Moderation**: A missing log channel could make the message filters skip a message
* **Auto Moderation**: An empty entry in the word filter flagged every message
* **Warns**: `/warns limits edit` failed on servers that had never set a limit
* **Security**: Several security improvements for signing in and the dashboard

**October 2, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.25.0

### Updates

* **Moderation**: Role restore now covers every member who leaves a server, not only kicked or banned ones. `/mod restore-roles` gives a member the roles back they had before leaving
  * The roles are remembered for 14 days, as before
  * A member who leaves again before their roles were restored is remembered with the roles they had at that moment
* **Website**: The privacy policy was rewritten. It now lists what Utilbot stores for each feature and for how long
* **Privacy**: Utilbot no longer stores your email address, and expired sessions are deleted together with their data

### Bug Fixes

* **Dashboard**: Dates and times of warns, bans, tags and audit log entries were shown one or two hours in the future
* **Leaderboard**: New members only started earning XP one or two hours after their first message
* **Logging**: On servers where Utilbot is missing the **View Audit Log** permission, members leaving were not logged and the leave message was not sent

**September 30, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.24.0

### New Features

* **Guild Discovery**: Servers can opt in to a public server page and a listing on [Guild Discovery](https://utilbot.co/guilds). Available on selected servers for now
  * The server page shows the banner, icon, description and server stats, has **About**, **Roles**, **Channels**, **Media** and **Leaderboard** tabs, and offers Join Server and Share
  * It is off by default. Roles, Channels and Media each have their own switch, and Channels only lists channels that everyone can see
* **Dashboard**: The new Server Page section holds Guild Discovery, the Vanity URL and the Join Server button, which moved here from Ranks & Leaderboards
* **Rules**: The rules message is written in a new editor with a live preview, a "Show last updated" switch and a starter template. The dashboard page is now called Rules instead of Rule Embeds

### Updates

* **Messages**: Utilbot posts Discord's new message components instead of embeds: logs, polls, giveaways, starboard posts, moderation DMs, appeals, help and info commands. Existing messages switch over the next time they are updated. `/quote` still reposts a message as it was
* **Rules**: Existing rules messages are converted automatically. A rules message that is too long for the new format keeps its embeds, with working buttons, until it is shortened on the dashboard
* **Polls**: New polls show who created them
* **Vanity URLs**: A Vanity URL no longer needs the leaderboard. `utilbot.link/v/<url>` opens the server page (the leaderboard for servers without Guild Discovery) and `utilbot.link/v/<url>/leaderboard` opens the leaderboard
* **Leaderboard**: Leaderboards moved to `utilbot.co/guilds/<server id>/leaderboard`. Old links redirect

### Bug Fixes

* **Leaderboard**: `/leaderboard` and the level-up button linked to a broken address on servers with a Vanity URL
* **Logging**: Messages deleted by their own author are logged again on all servers
* **Logging**: Edits and deletions of older messages, such as ones sent before Utilbot's last restart, are logged
* **Logging**: Log entries for messages deleted by a moderator no longer show a wrong message link and empty content

**September 28, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.23.0

### New Features

* **Giveaways**: Giveaways can be created and managed on the dashboard: see entries, host and status, edit a running giveaway, end it early, reroll, delete it and look up the latest winners
* **Polls**: Polls can be created and managed on the dashboard: see the running polls with live vote counts, create a poll with up to 25 answers, extend it, end it or delete it
* **Temporary Channels**: Trigger channels (the voice channels that create a private channel for whoever joins) can be added and removed on the dashboard, not only with `/channel-creator template`
* **Dashboard Roles**: Owners and Administrators can pick up to 25 roles whose members may manage Utilbot on the dashboard without having the Administrator permission on Discord. Available on selected servers for now
* **Message Quoting**: Quoting across servers, for servers that have Message Quoting
  * Two switches: **Share** lets messages of your server be quoted elsewhere, **Receive** lets messages of other servers be quoted on yours
  * Both servers have to opt in, and whoever quotes must be a member of the other server and able to read the channel
  * Set up on the new Message Quoting page of the dashboard or with `/quoting`
* **Polls & Rules**: Both are now available on every server by default, and a server gets all generally available features as soon as Utilbot joins it

### Updates

* **Leaderboard**: Names, nicknames and avatars on the leaderboard follow changes right away instead of after the member's next message
* **Leaderboard**: Members who left the server are removed from the leaderboard and no longer count for `/rank` positions and rank roles. Their XP is deleted
* **Leaderboard**: Disabling the leaderboard asks for confirmation and explains what happens. XP and levels are kept
* **Polls**: `/poll extend`, `/poll end` and `/poll delete` have a `poll` option that suggests your running polls by title and also takes a message link. Poll IDs are gone
* **Commands**: Command access granted under Server Settings → Integrations is respected by Utilbot, and `/help` only lists commands that can be used on your server
* **Moderation**: `/mod restore-roles` only restores roles below the moderator's own highest role

### Bug Fixes

* **Commands**: `/quote`, `/giveaway end`, `/giveaway reroll`, `/poll end`, `/poll extend` and `/poll delete` only work with messages, giveaways and polls of the server they are used in
* **Warns**: Members who were kicked or banned for reaching the warn limit kept one warn too many afterwards
* **Stats**: `/utilbot stats` in DMs failed for users with more than 10 servers
* **Dashboard**: The Leaderboard quick action only shows for servers that have the leaderboard enabled

**September 24, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.22.0

### New Features

* **Appeals**: Banned or warned members can appeal, available on selected servers for now
  * Members appeal with a button in the DM Utilbot sends them, or on the dashboard under "My Appeals"
  * Admins approve or deny an appeal on the review message Utilbot posts, or on the new Appeals page of the dashboard
  * Approving lifts the ban or deletes the warn. Denying either sets a number of days until the member may appeal again, or is final
  * `/mod ban` and `/mod warn` can set for each punishment whether it may be appealed right away, after a cooldown or not at all. The server's default applies otherwise
* **Dashboard**: A server that Discord reports as unavailable (for example during an outage) is marked in the server list, and its settings can't be changed until it is back

### Updates

* **Dashboard**: Signing in runs on a new login system of our own, which makes the dashboard load faster

### Bug Fixes

* **Dashboard**: The missing permissions warning now also updates when one of Utilbot's roles is deleted or taken away from it

**September 13, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.21.0

### New Features

* **Rules**: The rules channel and the rules role can be picked on the dashboard. Saving posts the rules message with its Accept / Decline buttons, or updates the existing one, so `/rules enable` is no longer needed for the setup
* **Dashboard**: The dashboard shows which permissions Utilbot is missing on your server and offers a "Fix Permissions" action
* **Dashboard**: Your server list updates live when Utilbot joins or leaves a server or a server changes, without reloading the page

### Updates

* **Logging**: Log channels can only be added or edited while Utilbot has the **View Audit Log** permission, since the log would be incomplete without it
* **Rules**: Reports about a failed Accept / Decline click go to the community updates channel when no log channel is set up, and name who deleted or changed the rules role where the audit log shows it

### Bug Fixes

* **Dashboard**: Channels without a category were missing from the channel pickers
* **Logging**: A log channel that was deleted on Discord is removed from the logging setup instead of causing errors

**September 2, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.20.0

### Bug Fixes

* **Rules**: When accepting or declining the rules fails because the rules role was deleted or Utilbot may not assign it, the member gets an understandable message and the moderators get an entry in the log channel that names the cause
* **Dashboard**: The dashboard keeps its live connection while the tab is in the background

**August 22, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.18.0

### New Features

* **Logging**: A rebuilt server log, rolling out to servers gradually
  * Log entries show the reason from the audit log and who did it
  * Changes to channel permission overwrites are logged
  * Messages deleted by their own author are logged
  * Voice changes (mute, deafen, video, stream) arrive as one log entry instead of two
  * Users and channels added with `/log ignore` are now actually left out of the log
  * Utilbot warns you when it is missing the **View Audit Log** permission, both when adding a log channel and when the permission is lost later

**August 15, 2026**

New Warning System

We've rebuilt the bot's alert system to offer more features in the long term. Previously, alerts were simply counted as a counter per user, without saving any additional context (date, time, sender).

Effective immediately, this data is now stored along with warnings; the other features remain unaffected for the time being. You can also now view your own warnings and their status in the Utilbot Dashboard.

Migrated warnings are now dated as of the migration date; the system is listed as the issuer, and the migration is specified as the reason for the warning.

**August 15, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.17.0

### New Features

* **Warns**: Every warn is now its own entry with the moderator who issued it, an optional reason and a date, instead of just a number
  * `/mod warn` accepts an optional reason
  * `/mod warns` shows a member's recent warn history
  * Reaching the warn limit no longer wipes the history, older warns stay visible
  * Existing warns were carried over and show up as migrated entries
* **Dashboard**: Warns can be viewed, created and deleted on a new Warns page per server, and warns issued there trigger the same DM and kick / ban as warns issued with the bot
* **Dashboard**: "My Warns" shows your own warns across all your servers
* **Dashboard**: New pages for Starboard, Polls, Giveaways and Temporary Channels
* **Commands**: Features that could only be set up on the dashboard now have commands for admins as well:
  * `/ranks` for the leaderboard and rank roles
  * `/warns threshold` to choose whether reaching the warn limit kicks or bans
  * `/poll admin` and `/giveaway admin` to enable or disable polls and giveaways
  * `/channel-creator`, `/role-selection`, `/welcome`, `/word-filter` and `/soundboard`

### Updates

* **Leaderboard**: The leaderboard on the website loads much faster
* **Auto Moderation**: The word filter whitelist can be edited on the dashboard

### Bug Fixes

* **Starboard**: `/starboard` works right away on servers that never had the starboard set up
* **Dashboard**: When Discord has problems, only the affected section shows an error with a retry button. The rest of the dashboard stays usable
* **Dashboard**: Signing in brings you back to the page you came from

**August 7, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.16.0

### New Features

* **Moderation**: Role restore. When a member is kicked or banned, Utilbot remembers their roles for 14 days. Once they are back, `/mod restore-roles` (requires Manage Roles) gives them their roles again
  * Works for kicks and bans made with `/mod`, in Discord itself or by another bot. Members who leave on their own are not covered
  * Roles that no longer exist or that Utilbot can't assign are skipped

**June 29, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.15.0

### Updates

* **Website**: Updated the privacy policy and the imprint

### Bug Fixes

* **Rules**: The rules message is switched off automatically when its message or channel was deleted, instead of staying enabled without a message

**June 12, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.14.1

### Bug Fixes

* **Message Filter**: Links are detected more reliably, a message with several links or unusual spacing is now checked completely

Utilbot API and Web v6 Released

After long development and testing, we are excited to announce the release of Utilbot API and Web v6! This major update brings a host of new features, improvements, and optimizations to enhance your experience with Utilbot.

Besides our new Website (which is a complete rewrite, since the last rewrite from 2021!), we have also made significant changes to the bot itself.

We have updated to discord.js v15 (yes, even if it is still in development), we are also working on major improvements for the backend / database to finally bring even more new features.

In the near future we are rolling out the "Tags" feature, more on that later...

**May 17, 2026**

Utilbot - v6.13.0

### Updates

* Major updates to the backend, added new experimental features (more on that later...)

**April 10, 2026**

Vanity URL Adjustment

To make our link shortener (utilbot.link) more secure, changes to the vanity URLs of the guild leaderboards are necessary.

Specifically, this means the following:

* Vanity URLs now have the prefix `/v` in the path; a complete vanity URL will look like this: `https://utilbot.link/v/utilbot`
* Existing vanity URLs will remain in place for now, but do not rely on them as they may be removed on short notice

> [!NOTE]
>
> This change will not be visible on the bot's production-stage website ([https://utilbot.co](https://utilbot.co))!
>
> Update May 17th, 2026: The change is now also visible in the production website.
